M1 Sparks 240 Moments of Kindness In Our Communities.

What happens when an entire credit union decides to spend a week focused on spreading joy?
You get countless smiles, a few happy tears, and a ripple of kindness felt across communities in Michigan.

This December, Members First Credit Union (M1) took part in its annual Week of Joy, a feel-good tradition where team members step into their communities with one goal: brighten someone’s day. Armed with 240 VISA gift cards, each worth $50, the M1 team delivered a total of $12,000 through heartfelt, unexpected acts of kindness.

M1 team members visited places where joy could make the biggest impact - bus stops on chilly mornings, local grocery stores, animal shelters, hospitals, nonprofits, first responders, and service workers who keep our communities thriving. Every stop brought a new story and a new connection.

“I look forward to this every year,” shared M1 team member Melissa Pashak. “Even small surprises can make a big difference and it’s a great reminder of how powerful joy really is.”

Reactions from recipients ranged from stunned silence to full-out smiles and even a few happy tears. Many couldn’t believe a stranger had chosen them for a moment of kindness. Those small interactions became the heart of the Week of Joy, each one a reminder that kindness matters.
