Michigan Educators Invited to Apply for Joy in Teaching Grants

Creative classroom ideas deserve the chance to come to life. Joy in Teaching Grants by Members First Credit Union (M1), will award 40 Michigan educators with $500 grants to support classroom projects, purchase essential supplies, or create new learning opportunities for students.

Whether it's expanding a classroom library, launching a hands-on STEM project, creating a more flexible learning environment, or covering everyday classroom needs, the Joy in Teaching Grants are designed to help educators bring their ideas to life.

"Teachers inspire curiosity, build confidence, and make a lasting impact every day," said Emily Holty, Grant Funding Manager at Members First Credit Union. "The Joy in Teaching Grants are one way we can support their passion by helping bring creative ideas to life for local students. We can't wait to see what teachers have in store for our youth this year!"

Last year's recipients used their grants in a variety of ways, including purchasing classroom supplies, introducing hands-on STEM activities, expanding literacy programs, adding flexible seating, providing mental wellness resources, and even making classrooms more comfortable with practical improvements such as air conditioning. Since the program began, Members First Credit Union has awarded $40,000 in Joy in Teaching Grants to Michigan educators, helping bring their ideas to life in classrooms across Michigan. Every project reflected the creativity, dedication, and care Michigan educators bring to their students each day.

The 2026 Joy in Teaching Grants application period is open September 15 through October 15, 2026, and is available to all Michigan Pre-K through 12th grade educators. Grant recipients will be announced by November 30, 2026.

Applications must be submitted online. Members First Credit Union employees, directors, volunteers, and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply.
