Members First is Celebrating International Credit Union Day!
This year our MFCU employees are celebrating International Credit Union Day by participating in a scoot-a-thon! Our team members will be pledging scooter rides in return for a credit union donation to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions. Keep a lookout for your favorite local credit union team members who will be scooting around our communities!
The Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions is dedicated to assisting and advocating for credit unions around the world, especially those in developing nations. Particularly, the foundation supports credit unions in digitizing their financial services, provides resources for credit unions and credit union members who have been victims of a natural disaster, helps credit unions secure necessary COVID-19 safety equipment, and much more. What is International Credit Union Day
We celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) every year as a global credit union community to honor our People Helping People mission, and the credit union members and employees who drive the credit union spirit.
According to the World Council of Credit Unions, the ultimate goal of ICU Day is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged.
International Credit Union Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. This year, we celebrate ICU Day on Thursday, October 21st.
This year’s ICU Day theme is “Building Financial Health for a Brighter Tomorrow”. As Jim Nussle, President and CEO of the Credit Union National Association says, “credit unions are a gateway, not a gatekeeper, of financial services.” It is vital to the credit union philosophy that credit unions extend our cooperative services to all community members who might benefit from our help.
Today credit unions exist in 118 different countries, with close to 275 million members! Although credit unions vary in shape and size, we are all driven by commitment to member service. And that is something to celebrate!
